I fully agree in what you've been saying.
According to me, a system software that works like a CD burning, should be developed in order to save on a USB media =ANY= bootable ISO img.
Right now, the Puppy Linux one works ONLY for Puppy Linux, the Ubuntu one, only for Ubuntu, the Suse one only for Suse and so on. For Windows, it's even more complicated to make a bootable OS from an USB key. What are they waiting for?
If I were a programmer, I would do it myself, but alas, I'm not...

I really like the idea of publishing openSUSE live usb images, it makes it easy for users to create their own usb stick.
I personally tried to create one using kiwi several times, but it never worked :(

When will they be offered for downloading?

If you use the DVD instead you are, in fact, in an even better situation (it has more packages than the CDs), and you can certainly use it, yes.

The instructions assume you do NOT have the dvd..what if you do..or you have the 1 cd kde installs...can you use them? I'm on a slow speed connection and can't afford to install 5 gb of data over the net.
